Those old enough to remember cult Sixties TV series The Prisoner in which Patrick McGoohan was chased through Portmeirion by an army of menacing floating spheres, may find something eerily familiar about a new project by students at London’s RCA.
Space Replay from RCA IED on Vimeo.
This floating orb is designed to patrol ‘transitional public spaces’ while recording and replaying ambient sounds, to produce a delayed echo of human activity.
Electronics were programmed and inserted into the sphere in order to record and replay the surrounding sounds. Named Space Replay, the project is collaboration between Julinka Ebhardt, Francesco Tacchini and Will Yates-Johnson from the Royal College of Art.
