The old cabin has been restored using hand-crafted timber addition, which has infused new life to the building, without compromising on the original character of the cabin. The project involves construction of a new two-storey addition and updates to the breezeway of the original homes.
The addition has an open plan layout and features a loft, which enlarges the living space. The homes have used technologically innovative products, and structural insulated panels (SIP) which consist of sandwiched foam and plywood panels. The SIP offers higher insulation and reduces thermal bridging.
The southern windows of the homes are covered with barn door louvers, which prevents heating in summer. Additionally, these barn door louvers also connect the new build to the design of the original façade of the place. The wooden panels at the interiors have been left bare, which aids in beautifying the space.
OakBridge Timber Framing for the project has cut each wooden beams with hand and joined those without using steel connectors. This has resulted in tight joinery, which makes it strong and durable.
