Introducing the concept of a ‘hospital-within-a-hospital,’ the entire third floor of the hospital will be renovated and converted into The Heart Institute at Regional Medical Center of Acadiana.

To provide the patients with heart ailments, an up-to-date heart centre equipped with modern technologies, The Heart Institute will feature a dedicated cardiovascular operating room suite, which is 30% larger than the current room and a cardiovascular intensive care unit.

Apart from that the centre will also feature inpatient and outpatient rooms dedicated to cardiovascular patients and a large hybrid operating room for catheterization procedures and cardiovascular surgeries.

The Regional Medical Center of Acadiana will be the first hospital in the state with a unique hybrid OR and the second in the state. The hybrid room will allow cardiologists and surgeons to work side-by-side. The functional design of the heart centre allows the equipments to be moved easily for each procedure, and the high-tech machines allows for less invasive procedures and surgeries.

A total of 20 inpatient and outpatient beds will be housed on the third floor, as well as six critical care beds. The renovation will also open up one or two operating rooms for general and orthopedic surgery according to a hospital official.

To offer a welcoming look, the Heart Institute will use soft colours in its décor. Each stage of the hospital visit will be just a few steps from another. A family waiting room will also be included.
