First completed during the 1950’s, the 70,000 square-foot home building was remodeled at a cost of $17 million led by architect Michael Shanus from KPA Groups. The design of the remodel was based upon input provided by the members.
Amenities included in the home building includes computer area that features workstations with magnifying screens, expanded wellness center, social halls, game rooms, and others. In addition to other improvements, three music practice rooms, bike racks and a second elevator have been added.
Green features in the newly renovated home building include the use of recycled materials, non-toxic paints and adhesives with extensive monitoring of construction waste. Solar film was also added to windows. The solar panels are designed to meet at least 12% of the building’s overall electricity use.
The newly installed lighting systems comprise automatic dim or shut off facility. Other features include solar panels, and low-flow plumbing fixtures. Fire sprinklers have been installed. The project also included a seismic upgrade in the building.
The project was completed in two years.
