The renovation project is moving ahead of schedule. The project has integrated energy-efficient features as its central theme. The state-of-the-art classrooms in the 38-year-old building will be improved with eco-friendly and energy-efficient elements.
Faculty offices will be relocated from the center of the building to the northwest corner to allow for the installation of windows. The south entrance will be equipped with more windows and a curved Kalwall Skylight.
Emry and Zimmermann halls have received more energy-efficient windows, lighting and ventilation. Updated electrical systems and new pumping systems for heating and cooling have been installed. Richardson and Higbie halls have undergone renovation, and now features additional windows and more sun-lit spaces.
The renovation of Habeger Science Center is designed to improve the look and functionality of the facility. The center renovation is divided into two phases: the first phase will undertake the interior work and the second involves changes to the south entrance. The entire facility, excluding two biology and one chemistry labs will receive cosmetic and other improvements.
The project is designed to achieve US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-Silver certification based on its energy efficiency features.
The entire project is slated to reach completion by August 1, 2010 resulting in improved classroom and office space.
