Combining traditional and modern materials, the Old Town Hall has been renovated to create a more sustainable and energy-efficient building environment.

Providing the first glimpse of the new-look Old Town Hall, large sections of the scaffolding have been removed. The external renovations of the refurbishment project include the renewal of the slate roof with 26,000 Welsh slates, the southern and eastern walls, and the addition of distinctive terracotta features on the roof and gable ends by replacing the distinctive originals.

Apart from that the refurbishment work also includes renovation of the clock tower, and fitting out and interior restoration. Four new clock dials, each one over three feet across, have been lifted up and secured into position on the Old Town Hall’s clock tower.

The latest energy-efficient glass is being used to form slim profile panels for the specially manufactured steel frame windows of the Old Town Hall. The fine traditional ceilings of the Old Town Hall have been restored with decorative plasterwork.

Retaining all the elegance of the originals, the renovated town hall features energy-efficient Pilkington Spacia windows, whose panels are far slimmer than the standard double glazing units. Complex window-opening mechanisms that were installed when the Old Town Hall was built are also being restored.

The original external courtyard area of the Old Town Hall has been given a pyramid shaped glass roof so that it can be transformed into a stylish modern atrium.

Other renovation works include installation of the mechanical and electrical services for studios, the theatre, performance spaces, café, work areas and offices.
