Tawi-Tawi Airport or Sanga-Sanga Airport in Bonao, Philippines has extended its runway from 1,608 meters to 1,920 meters. The runway is widened from 18 to 30 meters. The weakened asphalt sections in the runway have been replaced with concrete.
The renovated airport is expected to fetch more economic development to the underdeveloped Tawi Tawi, which is among the country’s marine-rich provinces. The emerging aquaculture and eco-tourism industries are expected to get competitive advantage through this airport improvement.
The new runway was inaugurated on August 17, 2009, by Ambassador Kristie Kenney and local officials. The project was a partnership between the DOTC, the CAAP, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the regional government of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and the Tawi-Tawi provincial government.
