The old school building was demolished to make way for a new school campus, including a main teaching building, assembly halls, and catering facilities.
Apart from that the project also includes the construction of a separate sports hall and multi-use games area (MUGA).
To make the project eco-friendly, the new facility has incorporated many sustainable elements, such as a biomass boiler as the primary heat source and photovoltaic cells, which benefit from the substantial areas of flat roofing, to provide electricity.
Sympathetic to the local area of predominantly low rise housing, the design will create provision for natural light, open spaces and comfortable circulation areas.
The scheme is scheduled to complete in September 2014.
Being built as part of the Southwark School for the Futures programme, the new school will accommodate approximately 800 students.
