The new media lounge will be designed as a non-commercial environment, and would draw inspiration from the varied surroundings of the airport. The lounge will enable passengers to scan boarding passes, recharge electronic devices and interact with the room in various innovative ways.

The floor and furniture of the lounge will be designed to reflect the landscape, terrain, cliffs and coastal areas surrounding the airport. The area will also feature large lamps hanging from the ceiling that will mimic the San Diego airspace, with projections of detailed flight information relevant to each individual passenger.

The lounge will also consist of a range of interactive elements related to local wildlife and the theme of migration, which will be prevalent in the installation.

The new media lounge will be launched in summer 2013 and would be accessible to all. Jason Bruges Studio will collaborate with architecture firm Gensler for the project. The project was awarded by the San Diego Airport Authority following a global competition.
