The mural, titled ‘Postcards of Travel’ will decorate the airport through construction of the new two-story terminal. The mural depicts Santa Barbara’s natural beauty, such as the mountains and ocean and the Santa Barbara Mission and the Dolphin statue at Stearns Wharf.
The main objective behind the mural installation is to soften the look and feel of the airport. It will stay as a temporary display throughout the construction work. The $50 million terminal complex includes a restaurant on the second story and features toilets after the security check.
The new Airline Terminal Project is designed to meet current and future passenger demand, alleviate long lines and overcrowding, and improve operations and efficiency. The new terminal complex is expected to be complete in 2012.
