Currently under a $2.6 million renovation scheme, the 1976-opened Performing Arts Center is being transformed into a state-of-the-art-facility. The changes implemented include: the light and sound systems will be moved from the top of the theater to the back, behind the seats, to offer the look and feel of a professional theater; and the combination digital and analog sound board will be large enough to accommodate eight or more students.
New rigging system, which combines motorized and manual operation, will replace the old-fashioned rigging system. The stage will receive maple floor, which is said to offer superior acoustics. The hallways at the backstage will be enhanced with an efficient maze. The dressing rooms will also receive makeover. The shop area will get improved ventilation.
The center will feature improved sound and light system and number of seats will be reduced from 349 to 300 in order to accommodate the changes. The interior décor will be improved aesthetically by incorporating shades of harvest gold and more blues and greens. Additional teaching space will be created by adding a small courtyard, which will double as a second lobby during performances.
