The center will be designed to reflect the Globe Theatre by incorporating oak, and backing it up with the shape of the theater. The project involves remodeling and re-construction of a Victorian warehouse in Park Street on Bankside, just 50 meters from Shakespeare’s Globe theater.

The historic façade of the warehouse will be retained and the new center will be built behind it replicating the size and shape of the Shakespeare Globe stage. The center will feature glass roof.

The center will house four workshop studios and the building will be equipped with lift and ramped entrances making it fully accessible. A public café will be featured on the ground level.

The Globe Education Centre will promote theater-based approaches to the teaching and enjoyment of Shakespeare’s plays. UK-based builder Durkan is serving as the general contractor for the project, slated to reach completion by early 2010.

The Globe Theatre in London has always been associated with English playwright William Shakespeare. The theater, built in 1599, was destroyed by fire in 1613. The existing theater opened in 1997 is the modern reconstruction of the Globe Theatre and is named Shakespeare’s Globe.
