Designed by London-based Sarah Wigglesworth Architects (SWA), a late-Victorian school near the Imperial War Museum has been adapted into a versatile space accommodating two dance studios, rehearsal spaces and offices.

The ‘Audialsense’ sound installation uses dense tonal chords of sine waves, based on the wavelengths associated with the dimensions of the studio. The modulation of these tones is based on the stuttering rhythmic patterns of the cladding systems on the nearby Strata SE1 tower designed by BFLS.

Siobhan Davies Dance will also lead a workshop using movement to heighten the experience of the Audialsense installation and the invisible architecture it creates in the Roof Studio. Participants will be guided in their explorations of passing through the different volumes of sound, making choices in the pathways they carve through the space. This workshop is supported by BFLS.

The LFA is a city-wide celebration of architecture, which will be held from June 19 – July 4, 2010, in London.
