Located in close proximity to Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier on the European mainland, the new Sogn & Fjordane Art Museum has a unique architecture, which mimics the surrounding ice blocks. The facade of the museum is clad in white glass, featuring a grid of angled lines, which imitate the fractured lines found on ice blocks.

The angled lines create irregular window apertures. The lines are illuminated strips, which after sunset enable the building to sparkle, striking a contract with the darkness of the town. The museum has four levels, which are accessible by means of a turquoise staircase. The rooftop offers visitors panoramic views of the surrounding, and also doubles as an exhibition space or stage for live performances.

The museum has a total area of 3,000 square metre. Construction of the facility was undertaken by Åsen & Øvrelid for Sogn og Fjordane Fylkeskommune, Førde kommune. The museum exhibits works mainly from the region, as well as other antique Norwegian artwork.
