Coupling the environmental rigours with the architect’s requirement for a blue/green anodised finish meant that marine guarantees had to be supplied from the anodisers. L.H.T. Comar’s anodiser, supplied the necessary quality and certification information and offered a twenty-five year guarantee. The major element of concern was the fixing of the aluminium façade to the stone brick-work. This meant that at survey stage accurate measurements were required which ensured that the project would run smoothly and to programme.

Due to the exposed nature of the building, accurate wind loading calculations were critical. Comar and Alan Spear recommended Comar 2 high span mullions for the framing around the top of the elevations. Comar 2’s slim sight line meant that the glazing on the project was maximised and created a stunning façade.

For the entrances, Comar 3 ground floor framing was utilised which incorporated Comar 7 doors. Doors were fitted with stainless steel bar handles and standard concealed closers. The whole contract was double glazed in safety glass.

Evidence of the quality of survey, specification and installation is show in the fabricator not being called to site for remedial work. This is particularly pleasing due to the exposed nature of the installation.
