The renovation of the Swansea High Street station formed an integral part of the National Station Improvement Programme of the Department for Transport, which is being jointly led by Arriva Trains Wales, Network Rail and the Welsh Government.

Work on the 1850-built project began in September 2010 and involved installation of new canopies over the platforms and a new canopy over the station’s main entrance. STG has built a glass screen wall to cut draughts on the station concourse. The glass screen wall also brings in natural light into the building.

The company has built two new buildings inside the station’s circulating area, which consist of a Customer Information Pod. The station features open vista and a new ticket office, waiting room and rest-rooms. To improve passengers convenience, the station now boasts of digital information boards, and ticket barriers.

The company has installed more CCTV cameras to improve safety of the passengers. The station features enlarged bicycle storage space. The company has also cleaned the frontage of the station.
