Invented by Milton Bradley in 1974, Connect Four is a game many of us – at least those of us born before video games became ubiquitous – grew up with.
Now, Italian furniture company E1+E4 has incorporated the iconic red-yellow-and-blue look of the game into a piece of furniture, the DISK36 storage unit, designed by Luca Valota.
As well as evoking the classic game, the DISK36 can also be played in a similar way. The game is made possible by the presence of 36 discs hooked to the doors by an internal rolling mechanism: each disc is leaned from the back of the door and released by turning clockwise. This also makes it possible to change the look of the piece by moving the red and yellow dots into different positions.
The storage unit is made of wood that has been specially varnished to give an effect similar to that of the plastic of the original game.
Polished stainless steel legs are designed to support the until, while also being subtle enough not to detract from the overall look.
The piece is available in strictly limited edition, with only 70 copies of made.
