Primarily constructed using donated and reclaimed materials, The Cineroleum was conceived by a collective of young artists, designers and architects, both as a way of transforming derelict or unused urban spaces and as ‘an improvisation of the decadent interiors that greeted audiences during cinema’s golden age.’ Popcorn, paper tickets, elaborate signage and flip-down seats all helped to recreate the familiar excitement of cinema-going.
This ‘pop-up’ project in the design hub of Clerkenwell featured DuPont AirGuard, acting as a luxurious ‘ruched’ curtain that rose and fell around the makeshift auditorium. The Cineroleum team chose the membrane because of its ease of handling, together with its ability to resist the London weather.
DuPont AirGuard is a metallised vapour control layer that is 100% airtight and protects against moisture penetration from the interior into the building structure, helping to keep insulation materials dry. With high reflectivity and low emissivity, DuPont AirGuard also helps to prevent radiant heat loss.
DuPont AirGuard works together with other underlays such as DuPont Tyvek advanced breather membranes, and special tapes and sealants to create an air-tight building envelope. It minimises internal thermal losses and helps to create a comfortable interior environment, offering energy savings of up to 15%. Although sophisticated in terms of technology, DuPont AirGuard is lightweight and simple to install and suitable for either new build or renovation projects.
DuPont AirGuard is a product of DuPont Building Innovations used across the spectrum of building and architecture, roads, bridges and other infrastructure and also in landscaping and gardens.
