Swiss design furniture manufacturer Vitra has created a second variant of the Slow Chair, called the Slow Sofa.

Developed with designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec in 2006, the original version of the Slow Chair emerged from their idea of applying the flexible comfort of women’s stockings to a piece of furniture. The resulting cover was made from an elastic and transparent material, which emphasises the chair’s silhouette ‘and lends it a graceful, refined appearance despite generous dimensions’.

Vitra has now collaborated with the designers to develop an additional version of the armchair in a bouclé fabric and has expanded the small product family with the Slow Sofa in the same material. The soft Flocca fabric comes in seven colours – from light beige to dark blue.

An ottoman is available to complement the Slow Chair.

Ronan Bouroullec said: ‘The Slow Sofa has a much softer shape, making it possible to group a number of the seating units in a very organic manner, ideal for spaces such as hotel lobbies, without being tied to a grid-like layout or something overly geometric.’
