Henning Larsen Architects has designed the Ekko Chair as part of completing the Højvangen Church project in Skanderborg, Denmark.

Though conceived for the church, the Ekko Chair has become a permanent part of Brdr. Krüger’s collection, which collaborated with Henning Larsen Architects on its design.

This stackable chair uses ‘a specially engineered’ mortise and tenon joint, and is available in oak and fumed oak finishes.

It marks the return of Henning Larsen’s studio to chair design after more than six decades.

Anders Astrup Andersen, senior designer at Henning Larsen, collaborated with Jonas Krüger, design director at Brdr. Krüger, to refine the chair’s concept. Their aim was to create a design that mirrored the church’s architectural identity and liturgical elements

The church itself serves as a modern meeting space, featuring a square floor plan with angled wall columns that allow light to enter from multiple directions. The pulpit and baptismal font are centrally located, surrounded by 300 Ekko Chairs arranged in circular formations.

Jacob Kurek, global design director at Henning Larsen, said: ‘In recent decades, Denmark has changed. We are more people, from more places, with more backgrounds and beliefs. This is clearly felt in Højvangen, where the community is diverse and growing. We designed Højvangen Church as a space that supports both faith and a strong sense of belonging.’
