Situated just across the road from the New Theatre, The Grapes project is Bath Ales’s first foray into Oxford. It is a classic Victorian pub in Oxford city centre, symbolising an example of a traditional boozer with a contemporary approach.

The Bath Ales estate was built on traditional character pubs. The design brief required a sensitive refurbishment rather than a refit. The new pub design by Simple Simon Design has provided a sense of space and light without upsetting the traditional character of Bath Ales setting. Care has been taken to retain the traditional charm of the pub, while making changes to the layout, colour palette, fixtures and fittings.

To create a greater sense of space as well as more headroom for staff and clientèle, the gantry over the bar has been removed. Some old tiles by the entrance have been cleaned and uncovered and restored. New cut glass panels have been installed on the stalls between the booths to provide more daylight whilst emphasising the traditional look of the pub. The Grapes also features a new back bar, low energy lighting, and an espresso coffee machine.
