The 5,200m sq m three-storey building houses the college’s Learning Resource Centre, beauty, hospitality and IT departments, as well as a cafe, bistro and restaurant for public use and student training.
CPMG says it gave the interior a ’boutique hotel’ look, using neutral-coloured materials and metallic wallpaper for a contemporary feel with the addition of decorative mirrors.
The beauty salons feature a darker colour palette and lower levels of lighting to create an luxury-ambience feel often found in spas.
Elsewhere bright accent colours are carried throughout the college, with yellows, purples and hot pinks featuring in furniture, shelving and floor-coverings.
Materials were selected to suit the surrounding area, with red brick and solar-control protected curtain walling to the public face and light-reflecting cladding to the campus side. Ground-floor colonnades are used as a modern reference to collegiate traditions and provide solar shading, protected walkways and outdoor seating areas. BAM was the main contractor and the project took 18 months to complete.
The new curved building is connected to an existing Grade II listed building via an atrium.
