In a meeting held this week, superitendent Elliott updated the council about a land lease option for new hangar facilities, adding that there are three tenants ready to sign a lease agreement. He adds that one person is also interested in becoming a tenant of the new hangar facility.
A demand for aircraft storage is being created due to the increased interest in Koritz Field, Elliott told council members, adding that there existed a potential to bring in aviation related businesses to locate at the site, noting that since the city took over full operation of the airport almost a year ago, the facility has seen many improvements.
A private land lease option allowing current and future tenants to build their own hangar is being considered to meet growth needs. Elliott noted that 22 hangars measuring 60×60 feet, could be built on the airport grounds.
Tenants who want to build their hangar would have to bear the total construction bill and electrical utility costs. The airport staff would set the construction standards.
Mark Delhotal, supervisor of airport operations, stated that the agreement stipulates that tenants have 24 months to begin construction once the lease is signed. A large community hangar has been also proposed by Elliott.
Rochelle City Council is expected to hear the land lease option on May 11, for approval.
