Replacing the 1962 basketball home Sartain Hall, Trojan Arena is home to men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and track and field programs and will host the commencement ceremonies and special events of the university. Trojan Arena was co-designed by Goodwyn, Mills, Cawood architects and Populous Architects.
Spanning more than 140,000 square feet, the new Trojan Arena features two practice courts, weight rooms, locker rooms and offices, in addition to the main floor. The new facility also provides about 5,500 high-back seats in a sports venue arrangement, and will accommodate about 6,200 with floor seating.
Said to feature the largest scoreboard, the Trojan Arena also features 63 televisions, 767-square feet video boards and a three-foot ribbon screen that encircles the arena. Home to the Troy University Sports Hall of Fame, Trojan Arena also includes upper-level suite seating and a stadium club area for donors, and floor seating for students.
Featuring a three-tiered rotunda at the main entrance, the new sports venue accommodates a food court-styled dining centre to complete the venue.
Local construction company Whaley Construction, Inc., served as the construction manager and Hoar Construction, LLC, served as the general contractors for the facility. Trojan Arena was opened on 8 September 2012.
