In September 2008, US Postal Service and two property owners signed a contract to pave the way for construction of a new North Truro Post Office near the corner of Route 6A and Highland Road. The existing North Truro Post Office suffers form lack of capacity.
The new post office proposed to be built on Highland Road, Truro, has received design improvements and recommendations from the Truro Historical Commission. The commission considers the earlier design proposal as pedestrian-hostile, and wants to include double-hung windows, a single entrance and exit, and a pedestrian walkway on the site.
The town has two post office – one for Truro proper, located on Truro Center Road, and one for the village of North Truro, located on Shore Road, which is now getting rebuilt.
Truro Historical Commission is a state agency, dedicated to historical preservation of Massachusetts’ architectural, archaeological and cultural landmarks, including historic sites.
