Designed by Austrian practice Two in a Box Architects, the Cattle Competence Centre includes stables, an auction hall and administration for the cattle breeders’ association of Upper Austria.
The visitor and animal paths are segregated. The cattle path runs along an east-west axis. The visitor path consists of cattle stable, auction hall and export stables placed adjacent to each other. This cluster location is integrated in order to minimize the distance traveled by the cattle.
Visitors enter the facility from the north side and enter the auction hall directly. The lower floor of the auction hall is made of reinforced concrete and the ceiling features a wood and glass construction. The upper floor of the auction hall and outer walls of the office annex are constructed from pre-cast wood elements.
The south façade of the facility is clad in a transparent synthetic net resembling the appearance of cowhide or cow’s skin. This design complements the cattle center and serves as an advertising medium for the Cattle Breeders’ Association.
