The $9 million renovation to Schembechler Hall, Michigan’s football facility will add approximately 7,000 square feet of building space. The regent will also renovate approximately another 7,000 square feet of facility that is already intact. The renovated building will include brick and glass exterior features and have separate entrances for the public, and players and staff members.

The entrance to the building will shift from the State Street side to the north side of the building. A statue of Bo Schembechler will be featured in the entrance to the building with a wall to inscribe his famous words “those who stay will be champions.” In the middle of the museum will be a beacon that will be covered with footballs representing each of the program’s victories.

The first floor of the facility will feature an updated exhibit and museum area, a space to honour Michigan football legends, and a pro scouts and media interview room. One of the main features of the hall will be a museum dedicated to Michigan football. The second floor of the facility will have a recruiting lounge, more offices, and additional exhibit space.

To welcome guests to events at Michigan Stadium and Crisler Center (Michigan’s basketball venue), to promote upcoming events, and to announce team and individual student-athlete achievements, a $2.8 million stadium marquee will be located at the southeast corner outside of Michigan Stadium. It will stand 27 feet wide by 48 feet long and will be located inside Gate 2. There will be also a row of speakers across the bottom of the board to give the marquee audio capabilities.

The project is expected to be completed by the 2013-2014 football season.
