The four-story, 170,000 square feet building at UCF College of Medicine has been designed to promote better collaboration among students, faculty and staff. The new building is distinct for the unusual curved design and interior stairways. The ceiling at the main entrance features fiber-optic lights poking through a night-black dome that covers the entryway. This evokes the feeling of stars inspired by UCF’s first president Charlie Millican’s motto, ‘Reach for the Stars’.

Students’ lockers are evenly placed at every floor instead of one big room to foster student-faculty interaction. The corridors on each floor end in windows in order to allow ample natural light infiltration.

Unlike in many other medical schools, where anatomy labs are placed in the basement, the new facility features anatomy lab on the top floor. The library, which is the heart of the facility, features more learning materials in electronic form. The windows of the library face the nature preserve outside.
