Dubbed as Exemplar, the eco town scheme will be constructed in four phases by A2Dominion, in collaboration with P3Eco. It will be completed in a time-span of five-years. Sprawling over 40 acres site, of which 40% will be green space, the phase I of Exemplar scheme involves development of 393 highly-efficient homes.
Designed to be net-zero carbon homes, the project is being aspired for Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes in the UK. The homes will be characterised by significant levels of insulation, superior thermal efficiency and rainwater harvesting.
The Exemplar scheme also involves solar array installation for the production of green power to fuel the requirements of the development. The solar installation at Exemplar is poised to be the UK’s largest residential solar installation. The community will also benefit from a highly-efficient district heating system. These elements are likely to bring down the operation costs of the homes.
The Exemplar will also include well-designed cycle and pedestrian routes throughout, a community space with communal barbecue areas, herb boxes, allotments and seating. The design of the scheme will also encourage children to play in the street.
