The upgraded stations include Wimbledon, Vauxhall, Windsor & Eton Riverside, Southampton Central and Clapham Junction. The investments were targeted at improving the convenience of the passengers during both Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Vauxhall station has used funds to enlarge its subway and booking hall, while Wimbledon has refurbished its waiting rooms and toilets. The station has also been repainted and a new forecourt has been included. The lower concourse of the station has been renovated and the area features new retail space. The access to the lifts of the Wimbledon stations has also been worked upon.
The Clapham Junction has received a new waiting room, wheelchair-accessible entrances and lifts. Weymouth station in Dorset features renovated toilets and a wheelchair accessible toilet, a new waiting room and waiting shelter, a resurfaced car park, leveled access to the station, and a new retail unit.
At the Southampton Central station, £2.4 million ($3.73 million) was invested on a new art deco style station frontage, an improved transport interchange for taxis and buses, and a drop-off area. The station now features a new and enlarged waiting area with additional seating, a larger booking hall and improved ticket facilities, advanced destination information screens, new toilets and special toilets for wheel-chaired passengers.
