Architectural firm Ellerbe Becket, an AECOM Company, and TVA Architects were commissioned to design a new arena for Oregon Ducks basketball programme. The facility encompasses club seating and donor suites, with the university opting for a small number of suites to achieve the revenue goals while preserving the intimacy factor of the seating bowl.
The new 405,000 square feet building that replaces McArthur Court has been designed to seat 12,364 for basketball games, and up to 12,784 for concerts, depending on the location of the stage. The basketball floor features ‘Pat Kilkenny Floor’ featuring a unique depiction of an old-growth forest and the slogan ‘Deep in the Woods’. The versatile floor can be removed to create ice for skating shows, or a dirt base for tractor pulls.
The project is designed to exceed state requirements for sustainable design, and is expected to achieve LEED- Silver certification at minimum.
The construction of the new $200 million, three-level building has been managed by San Diego-based JMI Sports. Hoffman Construction of Portland served as the chief building contractor.
