The project will include refinishing the floors, repairing and painting the plaster, substituting the sinks with new ones, installation of ceiling fans and replacing window sashes. The earlier finish of the facility’s floors will first be phased out followed by applying a coat of shellac and two coats of paste wax. The plaster walls in these rooms will be repaired with the use of a traditional lime plaster.
One of the rooms, belonging to the writer Poe who was a student at the University, will be equipped with new lighting facilities, antique furniture as well as a new voice recorder to deliver information about Poe.
Outside the rooms, the grassy area between the Range rooms and McCormick Road outside the rooms will undergo erosion control work. The sidewalk on the eastern portion of McCormick Road will be enhanced to eight feet in width. The sidewalk will also feature a retaining wall to prevent bank erosion.
The concrete and stone veneer barriers will measure a maximum of 18 inches while the grassy space will reach the top of the wall. There will be underground drains to divert stormwater away from the buildings as well as restrict drip-line erosion which is currently prevalent under the eaves.
