The Sterling Building renovation is a revitalization project initiated by Urban Word, with partners Trenton Makes and WSP Associates. Urban Word and its partners held a groundbreaking ceremony on January 27, 2010 to mark the renovation of the building.

Under the direction of developer Roland Pott and project manager Vince Pucillo, the project team is aiming to achieve the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification for energy efficiency.

The two-story, 5600 square feet Sterling Building is expected to be Trenton’s first LEED-certified building. The scheme will feature sustainable design elements such as solar panels, bike depot, structurally insulated panels, sustainable materials such as low VOC paint and bamboo floors, and energy efficient lighting elements. Possible residential lofts on second floor will be available for a build-to-suit situation. Construction and operations support the reduction of waste and the use of local and regional contractors.

The first floor of the property will be designed as retail space and the second floor is designed as a 2800 square feet loft or two smaller lofts.
