USM, Swiss manufacturer of modular furniture, has relocated its showroom from London’s Clerkenwell to Marylebone Square.
The new store features curated room settings that demonstrate the versatility of USM’s products. Visitors encounter a low credenza at the entrance, followed by a kitchen area with a floor-to-ceiling unit for glassware. The living room includes a home cinema designed with Leica, featuring a built-in projector. A display unit showcases the work of artist Abid Javed, with plans for rotating exhibitions.
A staircase leads to the lower ground floor, which includes a bar, a listening lounge with a media unit for vinyl records, and a bedroom setting with modular wardrobes. The basement also contains office space and a training area. The store concept, developed by design studio ForEveryday.Life, utilises a 350x350mm Haller grid to define zones and levels.
‘USM has been synonymous with modular innovation, seamlessly thefunction with timeless aesthetics,’ the company stated. ‘The new Marylebone store offers a captivating showcase of the meticulously crafted modular furniture.’
The new retail development showcases USM’s modular furniture, which has been in production for 60 years. The modular system, launched in 1965, features a chrome-plated steel tube framework with metal panels.
Although still catering to the contract and office sector, the move reflects a shift in focus from commercial spaces to the high-end residential market.
