The new structure, spanning 22,840 square feet, broke ground in July 2011 and has substituted the company’s existing location in Iowa City. It comprises an indoor drive-thru, an advanced training centre, and a spacious customer service sales counter. The facility abides by a host of green principles. It incorporates a geothermal heating and cooling unit. The structure has also been equipped with LED lighting fixtures and controls to reap energy cost cuts.
Installation of a 14 kilowatt solar system and a daylight harvesting system further reduces energy consumption of the building. This, coupled with other energy-efficient elements, leads to a 57% reduction in energy usage compared to similar sized structures. The facility also sports a power monitoring system while presence of electric vehicle charging stations boosts the green initiative.
