The renovated hospital features improved technology, decreased wait times, larger operating rooms, patient rooms and family waiting areas. The renovation started three years back and added 135,000 feet and two new wings to the hospital’s main campus in Washington, according to hospital spokeswoman Jamie Ivanac.

The new 24,000 feet Dr E Ronald and Constance Salvitti Center for Emergency Care is currently equipped with 34 beds, and four more will be added. The renovated center features four triage rooms and two dedicated digital radiology suites. It also houses a state of the art disaster preparedness communications center and decontamination room.

The new Surgical Services Center of Excellence, expected to be open by the middle of March, will feature four additional operating rooms, more spacious than the current ones, totaling 10. The new rooms are designed for greater efficiency and infection control. The hospital will now have capability to perform 10,000 operations annually, compared to 6,000 at present.

The Ralph B. and Carol J. Andy Critical Care Center features 26 private patient rooms and eight nurses’ stations throughout the center have visibility of all rooms. Officials said that each room features state-of-the-art patient care equipment and technology. Most of the equipments are mounted on moveable booms for easy maneuvering and less congestion. Patient beds are designed to be accessible from all four sides.
