The facility spanning 31,000 square feet is slated to the first educational building in St. Louis city to achieve the certification. It houses an art studio, science and computer labs, five classrooms, a mixed-use community room, bookstore, commons section, outreach centre as well as administrative offices.
The primary entrance of the facility consists of an elevator tower sporting a transparent form. The second floor atop the atrium comprises a large open seating area overlooking the atrium. The entire facility is fitted with advanced audio-visual equipment and also offers wireless service.
The building features various green elements such as installation of advanced heating and cooling systems which run low on energy consumption and lighting control systems. It is also equipped with indoor chemical and pollutant source control systems to improve interior air quality. Further, the facility has diverted waste by making use of reclaimed materials during the construction.
St. Louis-based KAI Design & Build served as the architect and engineer for the project while William Tao and Associates served as the LEED and technology consultant.
