The 185-year-old building is in dire need of renovation. The renovation project is expected to include installation of a lift for handicapped people and several energy-efficiency features.
An interior redesign is on the cards to make the space more customer-friendly. The building’s brick facade will be re-pointed and windows will be replaced along with an entire rewiring of the space, says architect Daniel Cotton, of Cotton Belaskin Architectural Services.
Jail cells will be demolished giving more space for office. One of the cells will be retained for historical purposes. The facility will get new floors, doors and hardware systems.
The building’s state-of-the-art heating system that was installed about five years ago, will remain as it is.
