Works under the project is expected to include rebuilding of the main runway, addition of new lighting and navigational tools, and construction of a partial taxiway to improve the airport’s safety, reported WinonaDailyNews.com.
Meanwhile, the Winona City Council has finalised design services for the project and is currently in search for a contractor to begin construction, which is subject to the federal funding.
As reported in WinonaDailyNews.com, the design phase of the project was approved in November 2011. The Minnesota state and federal government will fund 90% of the project costs, while Winona city will sell bonds to pay for the remaining 10%. The city will also use money from the facilities fund to cover the $475,000 engineering design fee.
The project is expected to complete in three years.
