In your opinion, how important is flooring to an internal scheme?
Flooring is a very important factor for an architect because it´s the base of the architecture and an important part of how you experience a building. Therefore it is of course very important to find the right material to emphasise the feeling and the reflection of the light.
When you work on a project and when everything is finished except for the floor, then you put the flooring in place and it’s amazing to see how it changes everything – you immediately get the feeling that you can live here.
If the flooring is not done, it’s impossible to understand the building – where can you walk, how you should feel. The flooring links together all the rooms of a building.
You must be approached by companies often. What made you decide you would like to work with Bolon?
I think Bolon has a very specific attitude, and I like all the attributes of Bolon – I like attitudes!
Bolon flooring is a very special material and I like to use a variation of colours and flooring for projects – I don’t want to use the same flooring for every house or building. For me it’s important to use material with an identity, and that’s what I found in Bolon’s Create collection.
How did you approach working with the Bolon product, and what has the design process been like?
I have made an interpretation of Bolon’s flooring that makes people want to touch the material; the flooring expands in every direction, with no up or down – it’s on the walls and in the ceiling and I believe that the [tactile] feeling came through; people get the desire to touch and feel it.
I like the density and the colour of Create, and it has been nice to focus so much on details in this project for a change, rather than putting the main focus on the big picture, which I normally do in projects.
For me, every project is an adventure and you have to find the idea, a synthesis idea. I looked for the right feeling and attitude to create this idea.
You’ve obviously given something to Bolon, but what have you taken away from the experience?
The project made me happy. I like to be involved in unusual projects with industry professionals with whom I like working.
