The 10, 074 square metre Zoomlion Headquarters Exhibition Cente will be built on a site at Zoomlion’s science park in Changsha, Hunan Province. The most striking element of the new Zoomlion Headquarters Exhibition Center is its steel and glass made changeable facade on both sides, which can be hydraulically changed to mimic butterflies, eagles and swimming frogs.
The design of the facade is in-line with the Chinese culture. The facade of the northern mimics the flight of butterflies and eagles, which represents fragility and leadership; while the southern facade mimics a swimming frog form, which symbolises prosperity. Parametric modeling tools were used to generate and design the façade.
The facade also allows daylight to penetrate the interior and have been created using parametric modeling tools. The form shifting is possible due to double skin system throughout the building. The inner skin takes care of the enclosure and building systems while the outer skin contains operable portions which can be opened or closed to mimic different animal forms.
The building is four-storey tall and has a height of 26 meters. It will be used as an exhibition space.
