The USM Modular Furniture Haller, manufactured by USM since 1965 in Münsingen, turns 50 this year – a design classic with cult status and major future potential.
USM believes that the future of modularity lies in the hands of young design and architecture students. The company invited renowned lecturers and selected students of famous design universities from the United States, Japan, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and Switzerland to research and experiment with the topic "rethink the modular."
The event took place in September 2014. The young students spent an entire week dealing with questions about modularity – the trademark of the expandable and upgradeable USM Modular Furniture Haller. On questions such as "How does the young generation handle modularity?" and "What does the future of modularity entail?" the various groups developed their own visions.
The ideas that the students began to contemplate in Boisbuchet were further refined at home, where they continue to work on their projects until they are ready to be exhibited – during the Salone del Mobile 2015 in Milan!
