Other projects over 2011 included Heolddu Leisure Centre http://www.playrite.co.uk/case-studies/artificial-pitch-transforms-leisure-centre and Newbridge Leisure Centre http://www.playrite.co.uk/case-studies/artificial-pitch-from-playrite-transforms-another-south-wales-leisure-centre both of which have been a huge success and have improved the centers facilities enormously.
The Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre also had a needlepunch surface installed previously, as with Newbridge, and although the surface had served the centre and local schools for many years it was decided that a new 3G surface would provide a better playing surface and increase the pitches usability. Changing the pitch also meant that the centre now had the opportunity to increase the size, and approximately 6890m² of Playrite’s Conqueror 40 was installed in November 2011.
South Wales Sports Grounds completed the installation of Playrite’s Conqueror 40, as well as repositioning lights, paths and fencing to create the larger sports pitch. Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre is the third project that has seen South Wales Sports Grounds, Caerphilly District Council and Playrite work together to transform facilities in the area. All projects have used Playrite’s Conqueror 40, a third generation (3G) outdoor sports surface filled with sand and rubber. A 3G surface looks like grass and offers similar playing characteristics but without the heavy maintenance associated with natural grass. The rubber infills allow studded boots to be used for extra grip, offering extra comfort and increased playing performance and Conqueror meets IATS FIFA 1 Star equivalent standards.
