USM has collaborated with Marokka Design to transform the USM showroom into a menagerie of 3D printed animals during Clerkenwell Design Week (24-26th May). USM Modular Furniture will create a colourful framework for orangutans to clamber over and octopus to swim through.
The clean and simple lines of the USM Haller furniture in the classic USM colour palette counters with the unique animal sculptures creating a visually striking showroom that will be a must see on the Clerkenwell Design Week calendar.
In 2015 USM Haller modular furniture will celebrated its 50th year a teastament to the timeless qualities of this exceptional modular furniture system. The success of this design classic is due to its simple yet ingenious design. From a few basic components a beautiful and practical piece of furniture is built which has been designed to grow with its environment ever changing needs whether that is the office or home allowing for individuality and creativity.
In addition to the sculptures the showroom will host an augmented reality installation which will bring to life a 2 metre beast, moving amongst USM modular furniture. A free app will allow visitors to capture and interact with the AR animal.
Marokka is a design house specialising in the digital sculpture of works of art and functional homeware. All creations are designed using 3D software and then 3D printed using eco friendly materials. The USM showroom on Central Street during Clerkenwell Design Week will offer visitors a unique preview of Marokka’s creations before they are made available to the public later this year.
Visitors to the showroom will also be able to witness one of the designs being created via a 3D printer. The printing process will begin on Tuesday morning and culminate on the Thursday evening when the sculpture will be unveiled.
Visitors to USM have the unique chance to be one of the first people to own one of the original pieces of art work from Marokka by entering a competition during the festival. The prize will be a sculpture, printed in-situ over the three days.
The showroom will be open during Clerkenwell Design Week from 10am-6pm Tuesday 24th until Thursday 26th May with a drinks reception from 5.30pm on Thursday 26th where the winner of the competition will be announced.
