‘I wanted the assemblage between the two materials to generate a functional, even tabletop with a light expression,’ says Danish designer Mette Schelde. ‘It required several experiments during the design process to master this assembling detail.’

An interesting design solution emerged, making this optical illusion possible: the glass and base are cut at a 45-degree angle to fit together smoothly, and glass of a very low iron composition makes Stub’s floating tabletop remarkably clear. It fades smoothly into the tabletop’s wooden centre like an optical illusion. Overall, Stub is a Danish design with a truly Nordic aesthetic, ideal for reading corners, lounge areas, or living rooms.

‘This is an incredibly beautiful design that has subtle sophistication in its details,’ says Christian Andresen, Head of Design for Fritz Hansen. ‘It may look simple, but the design and craftsmanship required are very clever – not very simple at all.’

Stub is available in lacquered oak, lacquered ash, and black coloured ash.

Available in stores from October 2020
