Giles Miller Studio is renowned for creating artistically focussed surfaces, architecture, and sculpture, bringing new meaning to spaces by celebrating the relationship between materials, light and nature.
Describing their work as an ongoing experiment into the relationship between materials and light in the constant pursuit of creative and technical originality, Giles Miller and Sarah-Jane first conceived the concept of Woven when looking into applying their distinct design concept to a residential space. “We’d always been interested in how the studio’s approach might manifest itself in a building you could live in,” says architect Giles, who primarily works on pavilions and social spaces.
Woven has been thoughtfully designed to fully immerse its resident in nature and is done through both form and function with a unique, sculptural ‘woven’ surround that encourages nature to grow on and throughout it.
Speaking on selecting and specifying GROHE for the project, Sarah-Jane stated “The house was built to be a retreat, a place for sanctuary and happiness, where friends and family can share lovely moments. The kitchen acts as the heart of any home, while the bathroom is essential for a sense of wellness. Installing design led products which were contemporary in style, sustainable in nature and effortlessly functional was of the utmost importance and we are pleased to say that through collaborating with GROHE we have achieved this.”
Woven is nestled amongst a canopy of surrounding trees just minutes away from the Broadstairs coastline, planted on the site of an old Kent nunnery and is Giles Miller Studios debut residential project. The characteristic Giles Miller Studio aesthetic comes from the fusion of technology with the handmade. The resulting complexity of meticulously arranged components creates depth, tactility, and allure.
Louis Pullen, Key Account Manager, Architects & Designers, LIXIL EMENA and GROHE UK states “We are delighted to be a part of the fabric that is Woven. The level of consideration and detail backed by the carefully cultivated design principles of Giles Miller Studio and their dedication to sourcing products responsibly for their debut residential project is incredibly admirable and a shared core belief which effortlessly aligns GROHE and Giles Miller Studio.”
Throughout the project GROHE’s Essence brassware and Euro Ceramics were selected, providing an organic silhouette and premium functionality, further complimenting the interior of the development.
Specified in GROHE’s StarLight Brushed Cool Sunset finish, the fittings provide a timeless design thanks to their modern, minimalistic aesthetic, along with sustainable credentials, aligning perfectly with the projects core ethos. The GROHE Essence range took design inspiration from natural forms, resulting in a naturally curved, slim profile, while GROHE’s integrated technology providing resource saving characteristics with a reduced water flow.
