The arrival of the warm season is just around the corner, the days are getting longer, and the desire to spend time outdoors is growing: people enjoy the sense of freedom and the reality that unfolds outside, along with the freshness of a spring breeze.
In this context, furnishings come into play, promoting social interaction and outdoor well-being, also creating environments for conviviality and sharing. Pedrali, 100% Italian company, has deep roots in outdoor furniture, dating back to 1963, presenting collections designed to reconfigure spaces to make them efficient and versatile, for escaping reality on panoramic terraces, lush gardens, and welcoming restaurant verandas, cafes, hotels, or residences, not to mention common areas in workspaces.
In order to meet these objectives and following the path of Beauty, Tradition and Innovation that has always guided the company's philosophy, the outdoor collections are defined by excellent technical performance and aesthetic appeal. Made with cutting-edge materials, they guarantee resistance to various weather conditions, saltwater, and sunlight, easy maintenance, and durability over time.
Not just chairs and armchairs, but also sofas, lounges, tables, and lamps that bring elegance and freshness to the spaces they inhabit, recreating environments capable of evoking the feeling of comfort and tranquility that allows users to detach from reality.
These collections have been chosen to furnish charming outdoor locations around the world, such as Khufu’s restaurant in Giza, Egypt, nestled in the desert with a view of the pyramids. With a dual soul that moves between history and modernity, the prestigious project was realized by architect Hisham Ghorab of Style Design studio, with the aim of offering a unique experience to discover this land, starting from the evolution of flavors, from ancient civilization to today. Starring in this evocative outdoor area is the Panarea collection by CMP Design in the armchair and lounge version. The idea behind Panarea is rooted in the Mediterranean coastline, and in the colours and refreshing breeze of an outdoor dinner on a sea-facing terrace. Panarea features a traditional element in polypropylene cord hand-woven in Italy that wraps around the steel tube frame. A comfortable cushion in dry-feel polyurethane foam that dries quickly and covered in fabric made from the same yarn used for the woven element rests on the seat.
From the desert to the city, even I Mirador, a charming terrace in the heart of the Naviglio Pavese in Milan, hosts the Panarea collection in terracotta tones, reminiscent of the colors of the city's rooftops, and blue, like the shades of the night that enhance the suggestive atmosphere of the skybar.
It's Remind by Eugeni Quitllet that conquers the sunny location on the island of Gozo, in the heart of Xlendi Bay with a panoramic view of the sunset: Terrazzo, restaurant & beach bar. Remind, chosen in this context in a shade that recalls the surrounding territory of the coastline and the rock, evokes the soft sinuous curves of wooden chairs from the late 19th century. Made from a monoblock of injection-moulded polypropylene, the transpiring seat and backrest contribute to the armchair’s airy, lightweight appearance, as well as to its embracing comfort. Remind is also available in the “recycled grey” version made of recycled polypropylene; as well as Souvenir, also designed by Eugeni Quitllet. Souvenir is a seating made from a monoblock of polypropylene designed specifically for outdoor use, which was born from the desire to reinterpret the iconic shapes of the chairs used in Parisian gardens in the 18th century. The soft shapes and three-dimensional slats make Souvenir particularly comfortable, while the legs widen towards the bottom, where they merge with an attractive small foot. Recently chosen to enhance the luxurious five-star Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel in Porto, Portugal, a city that captivates from the very first moment.
Pedrali furnishings have meticulously enriched the most diverse settings, from the desert to the city, from the sea to the lake, as in the case of Villa Lario Resort, nestled in a charming private park overlooking the waters of Lake Como, which houses the Grill & Lounge restaurant – ideal for a delightful dinner in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. Here Reva Twist, designed by Patrick Jouin finds its natural setting, providing memorable moments of outdoor sharing and enjoyment. A three-seater outdoor sofa with smooth lines and generous sizes, characterised by four tapered legs in die-cast aluminium placed at the extremities of the perimeter frame in extruded aluminium. The steel backrest and armrests are woven with a flat rope in weather-resistant polypropylene.
Nolita is a family of outdoor seatings which recalls the origins of a historic course started by Mario Pedrali in 1963 with his first metal garden chairs. It blends perfectly with mountain settings, such as the balconies and terraces of the innovative South Tyrolean aparthotel AMA Stay in San Vigilio di Marebbe, as well as with multicultural settings such as the Istanbul Modern, Turkey's first museum of modern and contemporary art, which offers the city a 650 sqm panoramic terrace. Right here, on the top level of the museum, Pedrali products embellish the space, allowing visitors to enjoy the view with the comfort of Nolita and Tribeca, a modern reinterpretation of classic Sixties patio chairs made from steel and woven material, also designed by CMP Design. The combination of these products recalls the colors of the sea and sky, which are prominent in the surrounding scenery. Where these elements meet, they create a gentle gradient from shades of blue to white, a color scheme carefully selected for Nolita and Tribeca, respectively. Between history and innovation, the Pirelli Learning Center fits in this balance. Inaugurated in 2021 in Milan's Bicocca area, the learning center introduced contemporary elements in perfect harmony with the historical context, relating to the surroundings through its facade, windows and decorations. Following this thought, Tribeca chairs brighten up the courtyard outside, together with Nolita tables in the same green shade that contrasts with the concrete of the facade.
Chairs, armchairs, barstools, chaise longue, the Nolita collection by CMP Design also includes a sofa version – Nolita Sofa – whose versatility lies in the possibility to combine different modules to create multiple compositions. The latter is the protagonist of the panoramic terrace of Human Technopole, a project that gave second life to Palazzo Italia designed for Expo 2015 Milan.
The celebration of the first garden chairs designed by Mario Pedrali is a recurring theme, just like the more recent Narì, by Andrea Pedrali, which echoes some of the elements of the first forged iron garden chairs from Pedrali’s 1960s collection, in a contemporary key. An armchair with a solid steel structure and a weather-resistant woven in extruded PVC with a nylon core wrapped around the armrests and backrest. The woven element, created in Italy by expert craftsmen, tightens towards the lower part of the seat and widens towards the top, calling to mind the fan-shaped geometry inspired by the backrest of the Serenella armchair. The seat and backrest accommodate a comfortable polyurethane foam cushion consisting of two sections joined by a zip and resting on the seat with steel slats. The legs are characterised by double steel tube that features a simple and linear shape.
On the seafront, just a few metres from the centre of Chania – Crete – stands the Tanneries Hotel & Spa, a former tannery complex converted into a hotel of 20 luxurious suites, all facing the sea, far from the crowds, ideal for breathing in the purity of life in the open air. This is also expressed by Soul Outdoor armchair, by Eugeni Quitllet, which we find on the terraces of the structure, ready to welcome anyone seeking moments of escape from everyday life. The aluminium tubular frame clasps an ergonomic seat in shaped teak slats, almost like an embrace. The minimalistic, flowing silhouette, is accentuated by the fluidity of aluminium, which ensures strength and lightness, while presenting a strong visual impact and a nice contrast with wood.
Crossing the Mediterranean and landing on national territory, even prestigious local contexts have focused on the excellence of the beautiful country, in terms of hospitality, gastronomy, but also design. This is the case with Laqua by the Sea, in Meta di Sorrento, in the heart of the Sorrento Peninsula, a charming house in the Collection of chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo and his wife Cinzia Primatesta. They decided on Babila Twist armchairs by Odo Fioravanti to offer moments of tranquility to their guests on the private terraces of each room with a view of the gulf. Babila Twist fits within a collection featuring harmonious shapes. Its profile is marked by an alternation of straight and curved lines, creating a connection between the artificial world and the soft forms of the human body. Steel armchair characterised by a large and welcoming shell woven with a flat rope in weather-resistant polypropylene. Babila Twist’s distinguishing feature is the combination of a woven body and a tubular steel frame with slats for the seat. These are screwed, making them easy to disassemble and recycle. A comfortable cushion made from dry-feel polyurethane foam that dries quickly, is covered in fabric for outdoor use.
Not only restaurants, hotels or offices, Pedrali's proposals elegantly furnish prestigious residential settings. An example is the radiant home located in the quiet fishing village of Vinišće in Croatia, overlooking the peaceful surrounding bay. Right here, the Toa Outdoor table by Robin Rizzini was chosen for the outdoor patio, ready to accommodate up to ten people to share carefree moments, pampered by the sea breeze.
Guinea, by CMP Design, recalls images of exotic charm just from its name. Unspoilt territories to admire the explosiveness and evolution of nature in its most genuine and paradisiacal expression is truly captivating. Speaking of paradise in its various forms, the link with chocolate arises spontaneously, as seen in the Patchi Atelier in Beirut. Here, visitors have the opportunity to watch skilled master chocolatiers create delicious pastries right before their eyes. The selected collection to furnish the restaurant's outdoor area is Guinea, with an iconic allure that evokes the concept of lightness and transparency. The large, embracing aluminium frame combines with a seat in waterproof textile mesh on which rests a soft, removable cushion. The version with a waterproof textile mesh backrest is reminiscent of the traditional director's chairs, with an enhanced sense of visual lightness. The hallmark of Guinea is its teak armrests, which fit into the aluminium frame by introducing a vivid, tactile detail that mitigates heat and cold temperatures. A durable tropical wood, oil-treated and FSC® C114358 certified, that the designers wanted to preserve through a moderate use.
Its armrests, seat and backrest are assembled mechanically, making them easy to disassemble for recycling purposes or to replace its components.
Lamorisse armchair by CMP Design offers guests at the Hotel Royal Victoria in Varenna moments of true relaxation on the shores of one of the most enchanting lakes in the world. An armchair designed for the outdoors, but it is equally suited to any setting for pure relaxation. Its aluminium frame makes it ideal for a waterfront veranda, shaded outdoor areas, for a poolside table, and even on a ship deck. The structure, made in extruded aluminium, with oval legs welded to round tube armrests, holds a large and enveloping cushion in polyurethane foam. The seat is supported by elastic belts that offer maximum comfort and strength. The cushion consists of multiple sections joined by a zip and folded to create the seat, back and armrests. The easy placement of the cushion on the structure facilitates storage and handling and allows the padded parts to be renovated without having to replace the entire product.
With seatings, tables also become protagonists of outdoor furniture, enhancing a relaxing corner in the open air. The cutting-edge materials combine functionality with elegance. Caementum, designed by Marco Merendi and Diego Vencato, is a single-piece concrete table. The addition of carefully selected additives makes the highly resistant material guarantee excellent technical performance, including ease of cleaning, greater resistance to mechanical stresses and weathering, and low permeability to liquids and stains. Available in two heights, Caementum is designed to create various compositions, and can adapt to any context, especially outdoors, both in public and residential settings.
Circuit coffee table is light and versatile. The standout feature is its continuous steel rod frame, which section that lays on the floor and the one that supports the top defines a soft and fluid curve.
Showcased at the last Salone del Mobile.Milano 2023, Anemos, by Pio & Tito Toso, is an outdoor table characterised by simple and architectural shapes designed to enhance the materiality of concrete, giving it a new expressive style. The distinctive feature of Anemos is the base, composed by two separate concrete shells secured to the top. Like a structural membrane, these elements free themselves from their image of intrinsic weight and, through a double curvature, take on a flexible and sinuous shape. A table that is visually light yet stable and solid due to its significant weight, capable of supporting large round tops.
Elliot by Patrick Jouin, on the other hand, is a table with an elegant silhouette and minimal design, which combines soft lines with sinuous natural forms. Table with four die-cast aluminium legs and four-lobed extruded aluminium column.
Correctly illuminating outdoor spaces, both in contract and private settings, is of strategic importance, both functionally and aesthetically. Giravolta, by Basaglia Rota Nodari, meets this need. A wireless lighting distinguished by a contemporary design, the perfect ally for memorable summer dinners under a starry sky. The main elements are two discs in plastic material, the base and the LED diffuser which rotates 360 degrees and direct the light, and an arc made in extruded aluminium that surrounds the two discs to create a practical handle. The luminaire incorporates the LED board, the lithium battery and the micro USB device for recharge. Giravolta is characterised by a touch control and three light intensities. A magnet in the base as optional allows the fixing of the lighting on metal surfaces, even wall.
