The Recreation Center that opened in early 2008, serves as the hub of health and wellness activities for students, faculty, staff and the community.
The center features an ice rink and restaurant. The facility is also equipped with a climbing wall, basketball court, running track and gym. It has also been created to host EPIC Adventures, the university’s outdoor program.
The center has been already recognized by the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-Gold certification, for its environment-friendly construction.
According to the magazine, the center, with its emphasized entries, casual social spaces and preeminent location on campus, serves as a place for students to come together for recreational activities. The magazine commented on the design of the facility as the one which contributes to the feeling of connectedness and diversity with a combination of dynamic shallow arched roof forms and simple flat roofed forms highlighting entries, primary spaces and day-lighting elements.
The exterior elevations have been designed with vibrant colors and features well integrated architectural forms, along with complementary exterior materials.
