Due to their durability and availability, shipping containers are ingeniously used as mobile food outlets or pop-up shops. Adding to the list of its uses, C2C has planned to transform shipping containers into healthcare centers in rural communities, with a little renovation.

The interior of a shipping container is renovated to allow space for a small consultation room, a small laboratory, an office for staff, and storage and inventory space. Modified for ventilation, light, and utility connections, a container clinic provides a personalized, local-level venue for community members to seek treatment services or preventive health education.

The C2C model is based on the seminal work of Laurie Garrett and the Global Health Program at the Council of Foreign Relations. With the help of architecture students and faculty at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Garret’s proposal of customized container clinics has come into an existence.
