Starwood Capital Group LLC was behind the refurbishment that was completed last week.
The new guestrooms have been decorated in a colour scheme of chocolate, silver and beige and fitted with the signature Hyatt Grand Bed which comes with a three-part ‘comfort support system’.
Dark wood furnishings and contemporary lighting also feature throughout the rooms.
The suites have been installed with the latest technologies, including 32-inch high-definition flat screen televisions.
The bathrooms adjacent to the guestrooms feature walk-in showers, black marble-top vanities and matching flooring.
In regards to the restaurants, the upgrade includes a fine-dining steakhouse – Shula – which is the first of its kind in Texas.
The restaurant replaced the two existing restaurants that were situated on the lobby level of the hotel.
The steakhouse is themed after the famous 1972 Miami Dolphins football season, in which the team became the only group in the National Football League’s history to finish undefeated. Hyatt Regency Houston was also opened in 1972.
Spindeltop, the hotel’s existing revolving restaurant, has also been renovated.
Nine meeting rooms and three boardrooms were built on the sixth floor of the hotel, replacing 30 existing guestrooms.
Hyatt Regency Houston managing director Steve Trent said the renovations have given the hotel new life.
“The project is essentially a rebirth of this iconic downtown hotel,” he said.
“The rooms are rich and warm and appeal to both the male and female traveler.”
“This is a project that has truly transformed Houston’s grande-dame into a world-class hotel experience for corporate and leisure travelers alike.”
